A Sensitive Restoration of a 17th Century Country Manor
A full renovation and design of all spaces, as featured in 25 Beautiful Homes Magazine.
This full-scale transformation of a 17th-century country manor brought every corner of the property into balance—honouring its history while carefully reimagining it for modern family life. Every room was considered: from major structural changes to the softest styling touches, the project combined natural textures, layered materials and imaginative textiles to create a home that is both elegant and emotionally grounded.
The kitchen presented the greatest architectural challenge. With awkward proportions and low ceilings, we lowered the floor to gain head height, removed walls to improve flow, and preserved key heritage details including half-timbered features and the character of the original windows. Cabinetry, designed in collaboration with Tom Howley, was custom-scribed to fit the space and ensure modern functionality in an irregular structure.
Structural work extended throughout the property, including reworking walls and floors in the kitchen, hallways and bedrooms. The studio barn—newly built within the grounds—was designed to sit in quiet dialogue with the main house. Its gothic-style windows reflect the architectural rhythm of the original manor, while creating a striking, purposeful workspace.
The swimming pool was also thoughtfully conceived to echo the house’s refined balance of classical and contemporary influences—offering a light-filled, elegant addition that blends beautifully with the rest of the home.
Across the large living spaces and bedrooms, we installed new furniture, lighting, and fittings—styling each room to have its own identity, while maintaining a shared palette and a cohesive sense of atmosphere. From the quiet formality of the sitting room to the softness of the private spaces, every detail was chosen to reflect the home’s character.
“The joy in working with a home like this is respecting its age, while creating something beautifully liveable for modern life.”
